The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has chosen the subject 'applied mathematics (241)' as an elective subject, to be introduced from the academic year 2020-21. The board recently announced the launch of 'Applied Mathematics (241)' for Class XII students at senior secondary level.

One of the reasons behind this selection is catering to students who want to opt for mathematics at university level or pursue mathematics honours courses or engineering courses. This new Applied Mathematics (241) course will help them to strengthen the career path and increase the knowledge and skills required. Therefore, this course has a fair chance of being opted by these students.

Here it is to be noted, that students who had previously applied for applied mathematics as Skill Elective will now be offered the subject as academic elective in the current academic year 2020-21. They need to accept the applied mathematics curriculum as an academic subject. Applied mathematics courses will henceforth not be available as a matter of proficiency.
